2020 - 2021 AD - on we go?!..

Welcome to the new website design - live now for a good few months! Yes, despite having all touring and gigs put on hold since April last year, it has been a great time to catch up on 'things that need doing' - one of which was upgrading websites site so hello to all newcomers!

Studio updates

May 8th 2021

While it may have been quieter than normal the lockdown has been a great opportunity for upgrades and additions in the studio. The studio is now fully equipped with Mogami and VDC studio grade cabling and Switchcraft patchbays - considerably speeding up workflow whilst retaining perfect signal connection.

Returning from Australia in February last year I bought back several new Beesneez microphones - amazing valve recreations and new designs by Ben Sneesby - check him out at: www.beesneezproaudio.com

A second Universal Audio Apollo x8p interface is now comfortabley in the rack bringing inputs up to 28 channels plus all the processing power I could need (for a while..!).

The Dave Gordon Trio came in to record an album with the superb producer/engineer Matt Butler at the end of October 2020 - brilliant original compositions performed impeccably by Dave on piano and melodica, Paul (Cavaciuti) on drums and Oli (Hayhurst) on acoustic bass.

Katie Spencer has also been in recording and tracking several tracks for her new album. We also recorded an EP Hurt In Your Heart along with Alan Thomson - three tracks of John Martyn's and it's great! Check out her website:

Just prior to lockdown I completed the mix and master of Geoffrey Alvarez's 'Hölderlinfenster', a monumental song cycle recorded over 5 days in November last year:

"April Fredrick, who surely must be one of the finest young sopranos around currently, sings this mammoth cycle with great finesse and refinement. [...] Alessandro Viale is the rock upon which Fredrick’s wonderful singing is constructed, nowhere more evident than in some of the faster, more driven songs. [...]There is something not so much of a modern-day Schwanengesang about Hölderlinfenster but a twenty-first-century Marienleben (which from me is praise indeed!). There Is a Dream

Having been involved with the project practically from the start, year on year it has developed in a way that can only be described as stratospheric. Nov 5th saw the first release from this amazing project - check out the song and video here (it's also on my video page). The list of musicians Simon has been able to enlist is staggering and I am humbled to have created amazing music alongside the pillars of modern music - the likes of Omar Hakim, Pino Palladino, Wayne Krantz, Robbie McIntosh, Keith Carlock - the list is long!
